My Observations
Experience in the Classroom!
September 2019 - December 2019
Prairie Star Elementary School
Although this was originally a "duty assignment" where I was not expecting to be placed in a classroom, I was! I was placed in a 1st-grade classroom observing, and also teaching or reviewing with students in small groups. Although I do not plan to go into Elementary Education, the experience of working with these younger students taught me a lot about teaching styles, engagement, and classroom management!

Prairie Star Middle School - 6th Grade
My other, more concentrated observation was at Prairie Star Middle School in a 6th grade Social Studies classroom! This was a perfect fit for me because I specifically want to be a 6th grade Social Studies teacher because I love the age that the students are at as well as the content material. I had so much fun in this classroom observing, answering questions and co-teaching. I truly learned so much in the amount of time that I was there about real-world teaching situations and applications.

Prairie Star Middle School - 7th Grade
For my third (and sadly final) observation in second semester, I returned to Prairie Star Middle School! This time though, I was in a 7th grade social studies classroom! I wanted to remain in a social studies classroom, but I wanted to experience a different grade level. I expected 7th graders to be different from 6th graders, but I was shocked by just how much of a difference there was! Even though there was only a one year difference between them, their mature level, motivations, interests, and courage to test the teacher's boundaries were COMPLETELY different! It was definitely a fun new challenge for me, and I felt like I navigated it well and learned a lot from it!
1st Semester Observation Hours Log
This is a log of how many hours I spent observing at each school during my first semester. A grand total of approximately 41.5 hours! During second semester I was in the classroom much more frequently (4 days a week), but with the pandemic, shutdowns, and other conflicts, I, unfortunately, do not have an accurate record of how many hours I spent observing and interning!
